“The Mirror Lies!!” – An Interview with Advice from Fashion Blogger GreyAvenue
After weeks of trying to setup this interview, it has finally come! We are proud to announce our first blogger interview with Mushka from Grey Avenue. Our entire team fell in love with her amazing style. She seems to exude so much confidence in what she is wearing and it also helps that she has quite the shoe collection! Based out of NYC, her blog represents the best that the city has to offer. We ended up speaking for over an hour and a half and here are some snippets from our convo.
DoppelU: What’s your focus as a blogger?
GreyAvenue: I want to make everything funny, useful and to inspire everyone visually. I want to make people feel better after reading my blog.
DU: Your style Improves everyday, where do you get your fashion inspiration? Any style icons you admire?
GA: I get it from all places; the street, Instagram, my grandmother, kids clothing (laughs). It can be overwhelming at times, which is how I’m trying to help others on my blog by de-cluttering. I think that Blake Lively is amazing, all of her looks are spot on, and she doesn’t even have a stylist!
DU: What brands do you really connect with, whether as a shopper or just a fan?
GA: I feel like I don’t have any loyalties. I always like to look at who is new and just coming onto the scene because they always bring a fresh look on everything.
DU: What’s your process of selecting your outfit for an occasion?
GA: For a more simple thing, I just go into the closet and figure it out. But for an occasion, I usually spend about an hour in my closet with a glass of wine, stress the #$%^ out and then I’ll start with the shoes and go from there. I try to focus on how my body feels at that moment and try to dress around that, and that’s why I start with the shoes because they don’t involve my body (laughing).
DU: What advice would you give to someone trying to improve their style?
GA: I have an amazing piece of advice that I realized only after I started Grey Avenue. The mirror lies!! The only way to know what looks good is to photograph your outfit from three different angles and examine yourself. Also, as a woman, you need to listen to your body. Your body feels different every single day and you have to listen to that when you get dressed.
DU: What is your favorite season when it comes to fashion?
GA: Winter. I love all the layers, fabrics and different styles. Also, I’ve had my color palette done and I came up as a winter!
DU: What is your target audience?
GA: Women who have busy lives who love fashion, love to laugh and love to be inspired.
DU: What is your biggest fashion rule that you have to follow?
GA: Confidence, confidence, confidence! You can be wearing the most fashion forward dress by Karl Lagerfeld but if you’re not confident, no one will bat an eye.
DU: What is your next purchase?
GA: I have lists of things that I want and I go down them. I have a reality purchase list and a splurge list. On my splurge list, I have a fur Montclaire coat and Valentine rock stud pumps, and in reality, I will probably purchase a leather jacket (maybe BCBG).
DU: Where do you do your shopping? In person or online?
GA: I shop on both of them. There is still something about trying things on in person. And I’m lucky enough to be able to live in NY in order to enjoy the shopping variety I get to experience here.
DU: How do you treat yourself?
GA: I never try to make an emotional purchase, but if I feel as though I’ve been working hard, I treat myself. People don’t realize the difference between high quality items and lower quality ones. If you spend the extra amount, you will have a pair of shoes for example that you can wear for years, instead of just a couple of times.
Next time you’re in New York, check out Woodbury and also go to the Realreal, they have huge discounts on items!
DU: What can’t you live without?
GA: So Kate Louboutin’s. They are the go-to pump; every single girl should own a pair. They feel great, look great, are classic and will last a lifetime. If you’re going to splurge, that should be the first thing a girl should buy.
DU: When do you pick what to wear for the next day/event/whatever?
GA: I’m pretty spontaneous, and spur of the moment when it comes to fashion. But, I’m always planning, I’m always thinking about what to wear, my mind is always in my closet.

DU: What can your followers expect from you in the future?
GA: I’m going to constantly be working to make my blog useful, creative, and up to date. I do have a collaboration coming out soon that will be very exciting!
